Digital Editor

Embarcadero Media is seeking a talented storyteller and communicator to lead our digital magazine-style journalism on the SF Peninsula and beyond. The Editor will oversee two of our existing publications, help develop new ones and will champion digital tools and techniques within our large and growing newsroom. Responsibilities will include managing TheSixFifty.com and its popular weekly newsletter, working with our food and feature writer to produce the Peninsula Foodist publication and helping us develop and grow our journalism for Bay Area audiences across different formats and media.

As Editor you'll occupy a prominent place in our organization, leading our efforts to grow our digital storytelling and finding new ways to reach an audience that wants to better understand the fast-changing communities of Silicon Valley. You'll thrive in this role if you have strong writing and reporting skills, a love of Peninsula communities and an entrepreneurial streak that allows you to work with social media, email and other online channels without losing your cool. You'll also have the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment where you'll need to set your own agenda and milestones while collaborating with a diverse group of colleagues in and out of the newsroom.

Embarcadero Media was founded more than 40 years ago to publish an alternative to a daily newspaper that no longer reflected the values and concerns of local 'readers. Since then we've grown to become a trusted source of news--an endangered species these days--up and down the SF Peninsula and in the East Bay. We pride ourselves on covering the difficult issues that challenge the Bay Area while maintaining the objectivity and intellectual rigor that remain the hallmarks of good journalism. We've been recognized over and over for our work with awards and rewarded for it by readers in the form of subscriptions.

This job is full time and based in our office in Palo Alto, though currently remote due to ongoing COVID restrictions. The company anticipates a permanent hybrid home/office work arrangement beginning in late January, 2022. To apply send a cover letter and CV to [email protected]
